Action Plan

  • Kindergarten teachers will use the curriculum Honoring the Light of the Child to teach and practice social skills throughout the year. 
  • Lower Elementary will use the Washington state K-12 Social Emotional Learning Standards and Benchmarks.
  • Upper Elementary will use the Growth Mindset model and goal setting forms throughout the 2019 - 2020 school year.

Kindergarten

  • Kindergarten students will engage in word problem solving using actions, objects or drawings on a regular basis.  
  • Kindergarten students will practice letter formation daily.
  • Kindergarten students will engineer a solution to provide shade. 
  • Students identified as below grade level in reading will work with the Washington Reading Corp member to increase reading skills. 


Lower Elementary 1-3

  • Students identified as being in need (MAP score) of additional support will receive additional math lessons using focus groups, teacher groups, parent groups, and/or peer groups at least three additional times per week.  
  • Students identified as below grade level in reading will work with the Washington Reading Corp member to increase reading skills. 


Upper Elementary 4-6

  • Students in Upper Elementary Montessori scoring two or below on the SBAC math will receive additional math lessons using focus groups, teacher groups, parent groups, and/or peer groups at least three times per week.

ELA/Social Studies:

  • Teachers will provide students with a cornucopia of opportunities to write, edit, revise, improve, and publish narrative, informational/explanatory, and/or opinion/argumentative pieces of writing.
  • Students will experience direct instruction, guided practice, and independent practice opportunities from their teachers across a plethora of parameters within the context of creating multitudinous writing responses.
  • Genres of writing will be assigned and practiced in relation to grade level CCSS.  In addition, SBAC performance scores and individual developmental levels of students will be considered to determine where students may need additional scaffolding to buttress the mastery of their skills.


Math: 

  • Students will demonstrate a working math vocabulary when speaking and listening to math.   
  • We will give a pre- and post-assessment with math vocabulary embedded in the problems. We will monitor student growth in this area by asking students to use the correct mathematical terms when speaking about math and I will confer with specific students as the need arises.

Action Plan

Kindergarten:  Teachers will guide students in goal setting and tracking progress throughout the year. 

Lower Elementary:  Students will be given the opportunity to use all school resources and home resources to complete their Geography Fair project goals.  They will have teacher support in creating teamwork goals and self-evaluating their project and teamwork.

Upper Elementary: Upper Elementary students will be provided multiple opportunities (focus groups) to select which high interest area learning they want to explore.  Then students will select how they want to demonstrate learning (portfolio, presentation, etc.).

Goal

Kindergarten:  By May, 2020, 80% of Kindergarten students will grow at least 2 levels on WAKids Objective 3a:  Balances needs and rights of self and others.

Lower Elementary:  By April, 2020, 90% of the Lower Elementary students will have participated in the Geography Fair Visual Arts Presentation. 

Upper Elementary: By June, 2020, 90% of Upper Elementary students will have participated in water quality testing, Arts Walk, and/or Geography Fair.

MAST: By June of 2020, all MAST students will participate in restoring the ORLA prairie and teaching other ORLA students about the importance of the prairie. 

School Wide: All Montessori and MAST students will have opportunities to participate in Science Fair and/or Geography Fair.

Action Plan

Kindergarten:  Kindergarten teachers will provide opportunities throughout the year to share, cooperate and work together on projects and activities. 

Lower Elementary: The students of lower elementary will work in teams to create their visual arts and complete research needed to share their presentations with the community.

Upper Elementary: Upper Elementary will have a presentation by Jeff at Killer Whale Tales, water quality, salmon discoveries, and salmon dissections to create awareness (Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience MWEE). 

Create a mural for the City of Olympia's Arts Walk
Attend Green Congress  

MAST:  Students will learn about native prairie lands, work on the ORLA prairie and teach other about the importance of prairie lands.
